Not sure if anybody on Twitter actually helped locate the dog, but it sure makes a good story.

Not from Pittsburgh? A steak salad starts off as a simple salad with iceberg lettuce, tomato, onions, radishes and cucumber.  This is topped chunks of steak, hard-boiled egg, French fries, mozzarella cheese and ranch dressing. That’s the way I like it anyway. 

What was the origin of the Steak Salad?  Jerry’s Curb Service in Bridgewater, Beaver County PA was the inventor.  According to their website, it was in the early 1960s when a customer cut up the steak from a sandwich and combined it with fries and dressing.

I live in Tennessee now, but every time I get back to Pittsburgh, I have to go to New Brighton Hot Dog shoppe, Gallo’s in New Castle and Quaker Steak and Lube for the wings. I haven’t been back to Primanti’s in the last few trips back, but I’ll be back next year, and Primanti’s is high up on my list.

ew. How could you even compare our great unique restaurants with a nasty fast food joint like White Castle? I lived in White Castle territory long enough to know that it’s mostly for pot heads and drunks…and “sliders” isn’t supposed to be a cute name!!! Who cares about White Castle? Almost anything Pittsburgh has is better any day. Eat ‘n Park is better!

Fact: I’ve eaten White Castle food. The original stuff, not stuff from the grocery store.

That said, hands down I have to say Primanti’s Bros. Nothing says “Pittsburgh” like a big sammitch with cole slaw, fries and awesome slices of Mancini’s bread. Slap some hot sauce on that and you’ve got yourself a great meal.

The Strip location is the best, but the suburbs serve their purpose. I’ve had friends who drive to Pittsburgh just for Primanti’s and it’s the first place I take any friends that come here.
